Grapes and vineyards in the Lachish region In the Lachish region where we are, there is a fine and fertile soil for agriculture known as Terra Rossa. Since the beginning of the settlement in the area, man has relied on agricultural crops, which developed thanks to the fertile soil that exists in the Lachish region. Today you can see this in the many gardeners’ crops around them.
In the book of Genesis chapter 49 we are described the blessing that Jacob blessed his sons before his death.
To each of his sons he gives a special blessing suitable for him. Yehuda, his fourth son, differs from everyone else, he blesses with two blessings. In the first part of the blessing he blesses Judah with strong rule (blessing on the character of his descendants) and in the second part Jacob blesses Judah: "Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine..." The intention is that his estate will be abundant in vineyards and he will have an abundance of wine and will never lack for it.
The fulfillment of the first blessing was given in the reign of David who was from the tribe of Judah to be king over Israel. Today everyone who looks around our region will be able to see the fulfillment of Jacob’s second blessing to Judah - today and in the past the Judean lowlands are full of many vineyards and fine grapes. The grape and wine industry in the present and in the past was developed and impressive. In the archaeological findings we find dozens of winepresses towards Ashkelon, a fact that indicates that the wine from the region was even marketed outside the borders of the Land of Israel already in the distant past.
Today in the Lachish Valley, many forgotten grapes are grown in many vineyards that are sold in Israel and even abroad. The climate in the region allows the grapes to grow with the characteristics that suit them and thereby preserve their juiciness. The clouds are under the brand Envi Tali which belongs to Moshav Lachish (near the biblical Tel Lachish) and there is nothing more identified with
Moshav Lachish from the quote:
"Tali grapes - all gold grapes!"
