שכונת מקור חיים הוקמה בשנת 1924 על ידי קרן קיימת לישראל, מדרום, למושבה הגרמנית. היא נקראת על שם חיים הכהן מחרקוב, אשר מכספו נרכשו חלק ניכר מקרקעותיה. השכונה תוכננה על ידי האדריכל ריכרד קאופמן ובה רחוב אחד מרכזי, שלאורכו בתים ומאחוריהם חלקות קרקע שיועדו למשקי עזר. תושביה הראשונים של השכונה היו בעיקר עולים מפולין, בני העלייה הרביעית. בתקופת פרעות תרצ"ו-תרצ"ט (1939-1936) התנדבו תושבי מקור חיים, מידי לילה, לשמירה על השכונה. בתמונה הם נראים ממוקמים בעיקול פסי הרכבת ממערב לבית דובנה (רחוב מקור חיים 50).

مخصصة بني حي مكور حايـيـم عام 1924 على يد الصندوق القومي اليهودي جنوب المستعمرة الألمانية . سمي الحي على اسم حاييم كوهين من خاركوف ، الذي اشترى جزء كبيرا من أراضيه بماله . صمم الحي على يد المهندس المعماري ريخارد كوفمان وبه شارع رئيسي واحد ، على طوله بنيت المنازل وخلفها قطع أراضي · للمساعدة المنزلية . كانوا معظم سكان الحي الاوائل مهاجرين من بولندا ، ابناء الهجرة الرابعة . خلال الاحداث (1936-1939) تصوع مكور حاييم ، كل ليلة ، لحراسة الحي . في الصورة نراهم يقفون في منحنی خطوط سكة الحديد غرب منزل دوبنا سكان ( شارع مكور حاييم 50).

Mekor Haim was founded by the Jewish National Fund in 1924 south of the German Čolony. It was named after Haim Hacohen of Cracow, Poland, who donated the money to buy much of its land. The neighborhood, planned by the architect Richard Kaufman, had a main street lined with homes behind which were small farming plots. The first inhabitants were mainly immigrants from Poland who arrived in the country during the Fourth Aliyah. During the 1936-1939 Arab Revolt, residents of Mekor Haim volunteered every night to guard the neighborhood. This photo shows them stationed on a bend in the tracks west of the Dubna house (50 Mekor Haim Street).
