A drinking fountain built in memory of George Sparkes (1810-1878) who was a judge in India on behalf of the East India Company. The faucet was built by his wife in 1880 and designed by Charles Barry Jr. The drinking water faucet with a lighting lantern on top is still active
On the other side of the drinking fountain there is another sign: THE RESTORATION OF THIS FOUNTAIN WAS UNDERTAKEN BY TRANSPORT FOR LONDON AND THE ROYAL BOROUGH OF KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA.
THE COMPLETION OF THE WORKS WAS MARKED IN A CEREMONY LED BY THE WORSHIPFUL THE MAYOR OF THE ROYAL BOROUGH, COUNCILLOR ROBERT FREEMAN ON 18TH MAY 2016 Click for a larger image
