Chelsea Embankment Part of the Thames Embankment which was initially built with the aim of making wetlands near the Thames suitable for human habitation.
The place was designed by the engineer Joseph Bazalgette as part of the project of establishing the sewage system of central London.

On the pillar are carved children passing a torch up in order to light the lantern
