Le origini storiche della costruzione della Casa Comunale risalgono al 1839, quando il Decurionato borbonico di Zafferana Etnea decise l’acquisto di un terreno per la costruzione della Casa Comunale, dando incarico all’Architetto acese Raffaele Patanè Contarini.
L’atto venne impugnato dai proprietari del terreno, con l’avvio di un contenzioso che si trascinerà per i successivi 50 anni. Solo nel 1887 ebbero inizio i lavori di costruzione, che, fra mille ostacoli d’ordine tecnico e burocratico, si completarono nel decennio 1910-1919.
Il 19 Ottobre 1984 un evento sismico colpi il territorio di Zafferana Etnea; molti edifici subirono ingenti danni e, fra questi, anche il Palazzo Municipale. Sono trascorsi molti anni da quegli avvenimenti e la Casa Comunale, ristrutturata ed ampliata, è stata restituita al suo antico splendore con l’inaugurazione avvenuta il 30 Maggio 2009.
Oggi ospita tutti gli Uffici amministrativi del Comune di Zafferana Etnea.

The historical origins of the building of the Town Hall date back to 1839, when the Bourbon Decurionate of Zafferana decided to purchase a land for the construction of the Town Hall and asked to the architect Raffaele Patanè Contarini from Acireale. The act was contested by the owners of the land, with the start of a quarrel which will drag out for the next 50 years. Only in 1887 the construction work started, which, with a huge number of technical and bureaucratic barriers, was completed in the ten years from1910 to 1919.
On October 19th, 1984 an earthquake struck the territory of Zafferana; Many buildings suffered extensive damage, and, among these, also the Town Hall. Many years have passed since those events and the Town Hall was reconstructed and extended, and it was returned to its former glory. The inauguration took place on May 30th, 2009.
Now the building hosts all the administrative offices of the municipality of Zafferana.
