The plaque and statue are in front of the town hall of Zafferana Etnea, commemorating the painter, a native of the town, Giuseppe Sciuti (1834-1911).
Known as a painter of ancient Greek and Roman subjects. He also painted ceilings and interiors of churches and cathedrals.

PAINTER GIUSEPPE SCIUTI
Sciuti was born in 1834 in Zafferana Etnea. From an early age he revealed a remarkable artistic streak. He soon moved away from his hometown to improve his talent; he traveled a lot, leaving evidence of his art in various cities, such as Sassari, Lugano, Acireale, Catania. In the council chamber of the Town Hall of Zafferana there are two frescoes: "Wellbeing and the Arts" and "The Eruption of Etna in 1852".
Ściuti died in Rome in 1911.
