VOYAGE
Voyage is an artwork uniting two countries with a sister statue in Hull in the United Kingdom.

It symbolizes the bond created by more than a thousand years of sea trading between Hull and Iceland. The sculpture is a tribute to fishermen and other seafarers who, over centuries, have braved the perils of the sea. They are also a memorial to those whose lives have been claimed by the hostile waters of the North Atlantic.

In 2006, thirty years after the ending of the last of the cold wars, Steinunn Thorarinsdottir was commissioned to create the sculpture to commemorate the long- standing links between our two countries. Both figures face out to the sea to emphasize that the waters dividing our islands are also the trade routes that unite.

Comments:
One of two twin sculptures made by sculptor Steinunn Thorarinsdottir in 2006 and placed in this location and in Hull, England. The statues made after the end of the Cold War symbolize the friendship between the two cities, with the two statues looking at each other from both sides of the sea.
