One of the statues in the Tuileries Gardens. The marble statue, which is 2.1 meters high, was made by Louis-Ernest Barrias between 1869-1871 and was placed in the Tuileries Gardens in 1875.
The statue shows Spartacus, the leader of the slaves who rebelled in the Roman Republic. Spartacus is shown in the statue as a small boy, next to a slave executed by crucifixion. Spartacus the boy vows to avenge the slave’s death.
