EGYPTIAN FORCES
The battlefield ahead simulates the Egyptian forces with their company of armored artillery carriers, two companies of armored personal carriers, two batteries of ground artillery, a battery of anti-tank artillery and heavy mortar shells. On May 19, before noon, after about six hours of artillery and aircraft bombardment, an Egyptian rifle battalion launched its attack. First to take a hit was the pillbox on the outskirts of the farm. Three hours later, all seven of the pillbox defenders were forced to retreat.
One Egyptian battalion landed a number of assaults on the southwest belt. For two days, the Israeli defenders managed to repulse every onslaught and the Egyptians suffered heavy losses (300 casualties).In the fifth day of the battles, two battalions of the Egyptian infantry supported by tanks, attacked the entire southwest belt of the Kibbutz. This attack was halted, causing about one hundred Egyptian casualties.
