The statue is located in Parliament Square, and is one of the 12 statues surrounding the square.
The statue shows George Canning (1827-1770), who managed to serve a short time as Prime Minister of Great Britain (died a few months after the beginning of his term). Before that he was the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom.
The bronze statue was made by Richard Westmacott and was initially placed in 1832 elsewhere and moved to Parliament Square in 1867, the first of a series of sculptures surrounding the square. In the statue Canning appears dressed in a robe reminiscent of the orators in ancient Rome.
