THE MONTAGU PYKE THIS IS THE SITE OF THE FORMER MARQUEE CLUB WHICH CLOSED IN 1995, ORIGINALLY BUILT AS A CINEMA IN 1911 BY MONTAGU PYKE, HIS 16TH AND FINAL CINEMA
The sign is on the site of the Marquee club, one of Londons best-known music clubs. The club that was originally formed on Oxford Street (in 1958) was where the "Rolling Stones" band made their first public appearance. The club has a number of locations, up to the current location in 1988 and operated in this location until its closure in 1995. The building is named after the man who built it in 1911, and was originally used as a movie theater. Today the place serves as a pub and restaurant.
