סיפורה של תמונה
יהודית שלייפר לבית איינהורן (1906-1988) התגוררה בשנים 1927-1928 בתחנת הרכבת בוואדי צראר. מתקופה זו נותר בידה תצלום אחד וזיכרונות רבים, שהיו למעצבים בחייה.
בתצלום נראית יהודית, כרסה בין שיניה, והיא אוחזת בחישוק, שעליו מותקן שרביט המשמש למתן הרשאה לנהגי הטרים. בתצלום הונצח מאורע שבו הסיטה ברגע האחרון רכבות מנתיב התנגשות. על מעשה זה זכתה לאות הוקרה.
יהודית שימשה מפקחת בתחנה ובין תפקידיה היו קבלת הרכבות וסימון המסילה. בעלה דאז, צבי בלומנשטיין, היה מפקח בקו הרכבת חיפה-קהיר והיא התגוררה בבית התחנה עם בני משפחתו של מנהל התחנה הערבי, שאימצו אותה כבת. יהודית נהגה לספר כי בליל חורף סוער סייעה לבדואית מהסביבה ללדת. הסיפור התפרסם בקרב הבדואים והכפריים המקומיים ועורר הערכה רבה כלפיה.
על פי עדותה, ’ההגנה’ ערכה באזור ואדי צראר אימונים בנשק והיא סייעה להעביר ללוחמים תחמושת שהוסתרה על גופה מירושלים לתחנה ובחזרה. מצבה ותפקידה אפשרו לה נסיעה חופשית ללא ביקורת. בעת מתיחות הייתה מקבלת הודעות מ’ההגנה’ בתל אביב והנוסעים היהודים היו שוהים בתחנה בחסות המשפחה הערבית עד יעבור זעם.
באוקטובר 1928, כאשר אחזו אותה צירים, עצר מנהל התחנה רכבת חולפת והיא עלתה עליה והגיעה לירושלים, שם ילדה את בנה הבכור יאיר. לוואדי צראר לא שבה עוד. לימים נישאה למרדכי (מקס) שלייפור, ואיתו הקימה משק בשכונת בורוכוב בגבעתיים ושם נולדו בניהם יוסף ואילו שלו.

שלט זה מוקדש לציון 90 שנים למגוריה של יהודית בתחנה על ידי בניה: יאיר אבנית, יוסי שלו ואילן שלו, הנכדים והנינים.

שרביט רכבת
השרביט שימש אמצעי למניעת התנגשות, לפיקוח וויסות תנועת הרכבות על מסילה יחידה. את השרביט נהגו לחבר לחישוק, כדי שנהגי הקטרים יוכלו תופסו ביתר קלות בעת נסיעה.

The Story behind the Picture
Yehudit Schleifer, (born Einhorn 1906-1988) lived at the Sarar railway station between 1927-1928.
A single picture tells her story during her stay there. In the picture, Yehudit is pregnant and holding a single line staff.
The picture was taken to honor Yehudit for preventing an accident between two trains on a single line.
Yehudit worked as a controller in the station. Her husband in those days, Tsvi Blumenstein, was a conductor on the rail line running between Haifa and Cairo and she lived at the Sarar station together with the family of the Arab manager of the station, who treated her as their own daughter. Yehudit had once helped a Bedouin woman give birth on a stormy winter night. This act of kindness gave her a lot of respect among the local villagers.
Many years later, she revealed that when the ’Haganah’ performed secret military training for Jewish fighters in the area, she hid and transported weapons and ammunition while riding the train to Jerusalem and back. At times of security alerts, she was notified by the ’Haganah’ and concealed the Jewish passengers in the station until they could continue riding the train again.
In October 1928, she went into labor and took the train to Jerusalem. She never retuned to Sarar station. In the following years, she married Mordechai (Max) Schleifer, built a farm house in Givataim and gave birth to two more sons: Yosef and llan.

This sign is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Yehudit’s residence at the station by her sons: Yair Avnit, Yossi Shalev and Ilan Shalev, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Single Line Staff
The staff served as a means of collision prevention, monitoring and regulating train traffic on a single track. The staff was attached to the hoop so that the locomotive drivers could catch it more easily while driving.
