מבצע קלשון
השתלטות על מרכז ירושלים
לקראת סיום המנדט הבריטי בארץ, תכנן הפיקוד העליון של ההגנה להשתלט על אזורי מפתח ועל הבסיסים שהבריטים יפנו. כאשר אחרוני החיילים הבריטים עזבו את ירושלים, בבוקר של יום ה’ באייר תש"ח, 14.5.48, פתחה ההגנה ב"מבצע קלשון". במסגרת המבצע הזה מיהרו יחידות מחטיבת "עציוני" ויחידות של האצ"ל להשתלט על המתחמים שבהם החזיקו הבריטים (שנקראו "בווינגרדים"), ביניהם "מגרש הרוסים" שהיה אחד מן המתחמים המרכזיים של השלטון הבריטי.
"מבצע קלשון" נמשך חמש יממות ובמהלכו הצליחו כוחות ה"הגנה" להשתלט על מתחמי הבריטים במרכז ירושלים ובדרומה. עם כיבוש שיח ג’ראח, על ידי יחידות של האצ"ל, נוצר רצף של שליטה יהודית מדרום העיר ועד הר הצופים.

Operation "Pitchfork"
On the morning of May 14th 1948, units of the Haganah and the Irgun Zvai Leumi began an operation to take over the positions held by the British, including the central "Russian Compound“. The Haganah succeeded in, gaining control of all of the British positions held in the central and southern Jerusalem. During the operation, which lasted five days the Irgun look over Sheikh Jarah, thus extended the Jewish perimeter as far as Mount Scopus.

The sign shape is square but its head is designed according to the silhouette of the old building of the Gymnasia Herzliya, which serves as a logo of the Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel
