EXPLOSION AT THE POLICE AND C.I.D HQ The Russian Compound housed the offices of the Palestine Police and the British Criminal Investigation Department (CID). On March 23, 1944, Etzel attacked and blew up the CID section. In the course of the attack, fighter Asher Benziman was killed. On December 27, 1945, the building was attacked a second timê by a joint Etzel-Lehi force with an explosion that destroyed the building. Lehi fighter Tzvi Aharoni was killed in the battle.
