The sign is on the wall of the building where Joel Engel lived - composer, born in Berdiansk, Ukraine (1868-1927), immigrated to Israel in 1924. Even before his immigration to Israel, he composed many songs, to folk texts as well as to those of well-known poets. He was called "the father of Jewish music", mainly because of his influence on music in the early days of settlement in the Land of Israel.
