The plaque in Noto’s town hall is dedicated to Louis Ignatius Adorno (1917-1943) who was born in Noto, and fell during the Allied invasion of Sicily in World War II, an invasion that began in July 1943, and ended about a month later with the liberation of Sicily from the Italian and German forces.
As a soldier in the Italian forces who fought against the Allied forces, he fell on the first day of the invasion (July 10, 1943), and for his bravery in battle he was awarded the Military Gold Medal (Medaglia d’oro al valor militare) in 1947.
Please note that although he is a soldier from the forces of Fascist Italy, due to his bravery he was noted on a plaque in 1949 after the end of World War II.
The place where the sign is located was photographed on the same day by the same photographer
