THE NORTH-EAST DEFENCE POST From the establishment of Marhavia until the war of independence, Marhavia suffered from the harassment of the Arab villages around it: during the cooperative period - from the village of Solam to the east of it, and before the war of independence from the village of Zarein to the south.
In particular, the concern increased during the "Great Arab Revolt (1936-1939): therefore the kibbutz built concrete posts in its four corners (in the kibbutz these posts were called "pillboxes" even though they were originally called round British defense posts, which resembled a pill box in shape). The posts were manned by "Notrim": special policemen who were recruited, trained and armed by the British for the purpose of protecting the Jewish settlements, although they were also at the disposal of the "Hagana". From the posts, the guards would also go on patrols around the kibbutz fence.
This post was in the shape of a hexagon, protecting the kibbutz from the large open area to the north of it, and its walls had firing holes in three directions. For many years after the War of Independence, the post was used as a warehouse, until it was largely destroyed during the preparation of the parking lot for the "Ofakim" school.
