The statue, made in 1928 by Aristide Rousaud, is dedicated to the French poet Pierre de Ronsard (1585-1524) who wrote mainly love poems. The statue was placed on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the poet’s birth (the decision to erect the statue was in 1924, exactly 400 years after the poet’s birth)
