BISHOP’S PALACE
The palace of the Bishop of Bath and Wells once stood on this site (the location of which is show on this map, circled in red.) It was first laid out by John de Villula after 1088 and survived, with many alternations, until the Dissolution in 1539. Excavations in 1984-5 revealed substantial foundations of the monastic buildings. A replica fragment of Perpendicular window tracery found here is displayed above.
