The statue in the Kings Garden (Kongens Have) commemorates the great Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen (1875-1805). Andersen became famous mainly for the childrens fairy tales he wrote, among them: The Little Mermaid, The Emperors New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling and more. In a sculpture made by August Saabye in 1880, Andersen is seen sitting holding a book.
