Comments:
Robert Fitzroy (1865-1805) was a weather researcher, served as captain of the research ship Beagle (the ship made famous by Charles Darwin who sailed in it, and wrote a book about this voyage), and later as governor of New Zealand. Fitzroy was removed from the position of governor and then engaged in weather forecasting and mainly in maps from which you can learn about the weather.

The sign was placed in 1981
