MILLET AIMÉ Paris, 1819 - Paris, 1891
CASSANDRE SE MET SOUS LA PROTECTION DE PALLAS
MARBRE, 1877 PLACÉ AU JARDIN DES TUILERIES EN 1894 LUX 77
One of the statues in the Tuileries Gardens. The statue, which is 2 meters high, was made by Aimé Millet in 1877 and was placed in the Tuileries Gardens in 1894 The statue depicts Cassandra, a mortal from Greek mythology. Her great beauty attracted Apollo, who gave her the skills of prophecy in exchange for her love. She then refused his courtships, so Apollo cursed her that no one would believe her prophecies, even though they were true prophecies. The name Pallas has two versions: either one of the Titans (the gods that preceded the Olympian gods), or the goddess Athena who was the Titans daughter.
