The Egyptian Armoured personnel carrier The Egyptian caterpillar is an armored vehicle that was used by the Egyptian army.
This caterpillar was placed in memory of the fallen in Operation Kadesh, October-November 1956, by the friends of the two fallen: Haim (Haimke) Atlas and Zivi Tzafriri - friends who grew up together in the old Kibbutz Givat HaSlosha (in its original location on nearby Arlozorov Street) and were killed ten days apart from the second in the south of the country.
Haimkes family immigrated from Poland when he was five years old and settled in Kibbutz Givat HaShlosha.
Already during his studies he stood out in his knowledge and became an expert in the field of plantations which was close to his heart.
He dedicated his life to the economy, to his family and to the defense of the people of Israel.
He instructed in the Gadna, served in the Palmach and completed an officers course in the IDF.
As a reservist, with the rank of second lieutenant, his vehicle hit a landmine in Nitsanas entrances on his way back from a patrol and he was killed on October 21, 1956.
Zivi Tzafariri, born in Nahalal, lived in various places in Israel during his childhood years until he arrived at Kibbutz Givat HaShlosha in his youth and quickly became an integral part of the Kibbutz. Zivi joined the Palmach and was very successful there. He participated in the War of Liberation in the battles for the liberation of Jerusalem and later reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the permanent army.
He joined Kibbutz Einat after the split from Kibbutz Givat HaSlosha, headed an armored battalion in Operation Kadesh, where he fell on 1.11.1956, when he charged at the head of the battalion on an Egyptian checkpoint in Rafah and his caterpillar was hit by an enemy cannon shell.
