Herzl Garden The Binyamin Ze’ev Herzl Kindergarten was inaugurated in October 1946, as part of the ten-year ceremony for the establishment of Kiryat Avoda. The guests of honor were Eliyahu Krauze, director of Mikva Israel, Zelig Lubianika, director of the ’Shikun’ company, which built the Kiriya, and the Jewish district officer, Yitzhak Chizik. The brass band of ’Hapoel’ from Rishon LeZion played at the ceremony.
In the original plan of Kiryat Avoda (1936), a garden was drawn with a length of 1,500 m and a width of 60 m. It was the first green lung of the city.
The garden was planted as part of the labor ideology, which believed that the worker should live near a planted garden, where he could go for a walk with his family members and rest at the end of the working day.
In the first phase, the school children planted trees (1937). In the second phase, an additional 6 dunams were planted. In the center of the garden stood the water tower of Kiryat Avoda, to which the residents of Kiryat would gather on holidays and for cultural activities.
