Mishan nursing home
The ceremony of laying the cornerstone for the Mish’an nursing home took place on April 5, 1946. Over the course of two years, seven one-story residential pavilions were built, including 52 double rooms, a dining room, a reading room and office rooms, on an area of 20 dunams, which were allocated by the Jewish National Fund.
The old people’s home was established by the General Labor Union, which established Kiryat Avoda. The complex was established based on the recommendation of a committee, with the participation of Avraham Herzfeld, Yaakov Achava, and David Bader, who were tasked with finding a solution to the problem of the aging members of the Histadrut.
At the beginning of 1948, students from the Green neighborhood, which was adjacent to the Arab settlement Tel A Rish, were transferred there.
With the outbreak of the War of Independence, the pavilions were placed at the disposal of the IDF, where wounded from the battles were hospitalized, as well as women and children evacuated from the southern settlements.
The compound is called ’David’s Camp’ in memory of Lt. David Ivanitzak, the commander of the Notrim van, who fell in battle in the area (January 22, 1948).
In 1951 the house returned to its purpose - a nursing home.
