קַלְמַן שוּלְמַן
1899-1819

סופר ומתרגם פורה. פעל בווילנה שבאימפריה הרוסית (כיום ליטא). תרגם ספרות מודרנית לעברית כמו גם ספרי היסטוריה וגיאוגרפיה שראו אור במהדורות רבות והיו בעלי תפוצה רבה. בין השאר תרגם את הרומן הצרפתי "מסתרי פאריז" לאז’ן סי, שנחשב לרומן המודרני הראשון שתורגם לעברית (1860-1857), את ספרי יוסף בן מתתיהו (מגרמנית) ועוד. הורה ספרות עברית בבית המדרש למורים ולרבנים בווילנה ושיתף פעולה עם "חברת מפיצי השכלה".

whose details can be found on the next sign Click for sign's details. The small streets located between Sderot HaHaskala and Bitzeron Street are named after the main figures in the movement.

Kalman Schulman
1819-1899

A prolific writer and translator. Operated in Vilna in the Russian Empire (now Lithuania). He translated modern literature into Hebrew as well as history and geography books that were published in many editions and had a wide circulation. Among other things, he translated the French novel "The Mysteries of Paris" by Eugène Sue., which is considered the first modern novel to be translated into Hebrew (1857-1860), the books of Josephus (from German) and more. He taught Hebrew literature at the Beit Midrash for teachers and rabbis in Vilna and collaborated with the "Education Distribution Company".
