On this site stood the famous "Red_House". From the outbreak of the War of Independence, at the end of 1947. the "Red House" was the Headquarters of David Ben Gurion and the General Staff of the "Haganah", the Israeli army-to-be, until after the Declaration of Independence.
The house located where the "Sheraton" hotel stands today was built in 1926 and was designed by Dov Hershkowitz. The house is called red because of the color of its walls, and was used by laborers from the labor battalion. The "Haganah" used the house for Aliyah Bet (Ha’apala) operations, and in 1947 the Haganah headquarters moved to it, until the beginning of the War of Independence when, in light of the shelling, the headquarters moved to the "Hachlama" convalescent home in Ramat Gan Click for sign's details
