LOUIS XIII 1610 - 1643
CETTE STATUE OEUVRE DE DUPATY ET CORTOT ELEVEE LE 4 NOVEMBRE 1829 A REMPLACE L’ANCIENNE STATUE DE BRONZE ERIGEE EN 1659
The statue located in the Place des Vosges and showing King Louis XIII was initially made as a bronze statue. During the French Revolution the statue was melted down. The current statue was made by Jean-Pierre Cortot (after a work by Charles Dupaty) in 1821 (and according to the plaque it was placed in 1829). King Louis XIII (1601-1643) reigned from 1610 until the day of his death. Also called "Louis the Just", during his time there was Cardinal Richelieu who actually managed the affairs of the state.
