קיבוץ צאלים - אתר ראשונים
בפברואר 1947 הוקמה צאלים כהיאחזות על־ידי גרעין של יוצאי הונגריה. במהלך מלחמת העצמאות עבר הגרעין צפונה והקים את קיבוץ כפר החורש.
מחנה ההיאחזות של צאלים, אשר חובר לקו המים שהגיע מניר-עם, הוסב לשימוש מפקדת ה״גדוד השמיני" של חטיבת הנגב בפיקודו של חיים בר-לב, והיה למוקד הפעילות הביטחונית של המרחב ובסיס יציאה להגנה על קו המים.
ב־ינואר 1949 עלתה למקום חבורת צעירים ניצולי שואה בוגרי בית היתומים "סלבינו" באיטליה והקימה את צאלים כקיבוץ.

Kibbutz Ze’elim- Rashonim site
In February 1947, Tse’elim was established as a group of Hungarian expatriates. During the War of Independence, the nucleus moved north and established Kibbutz Kfar Horesh.
The Tzalim holding camp, which was connected to the water line that came from Nir-Am, was converted for use by the headquarters of the "Eighth Battalion" of the Negev Brigade under the command of Haim Bar-Lev, and was the focus of the area’s security activities and a base of departure for the defense of the water line.
In January 1949, a group of young Holocaust survivors who graduated from the "Salvino" orphanage in Italy came to the scene and established Tzalim as a kibbutz.
