History Conservation and Architecture The farmer’s house is a reminder of the past, and is located in the northwest bank of President Square (Weizmann), the main square of the colony.
ardes Hanna was established in 1929 by the PIKA (the settling society of Baron Rothschild) as an agricultural colony for growing citrus, after careful planning work; "This is the first time in the history of the days of Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel that a valuable settlement enterprise is realized on the basis of a detailed and calculated plan conducted after a thorough scientific investigation into the place and its conditions" (Haaretz, March 2, 1930). Engineer Michael Kesselman edited the first "reviya map" program in the spirit of a city of gardens, traffic arteries, public buildings, public gardens and shady trees.
The Pika House or the Peasant House (renamed in 1978 by Pardes Hanna farmers) was built in the center of the colony, as the clerical house of the Pika Company The two-story house was built with the functional simplicity typical of the period under the supervision of the department PIKA’s technical. (Since the house plan was drawn up by the architects Ural and Zohar from Haifa, perhaps this house was also designed by them). During the War of Independence it served as the home of the Hagana Command.
In 1957, the PIKA company was disbanded, and its assets became the property of the State of Israel. The house was used by the Colony Committee, later as a public library, and in 1971 passed to the Northern Water Association until 2012, when it passed to the council after it was declared for preservation and intended to serve as a cultural space for the colony’s residents.
"The beauties of the place and the natural sights from it everywhere, especially the Mediterranean Sea visible in the distance, add a charm to Pardes Hanna named after the daughter of Nathan Rothschild of London" (Haaretz, March 2, 1930)
