The monument in honor of the Marquis de Castries (Charles Eugène Gabriel de La Croix) who won the Battle of Kloster Kampen, a battle fought during the Seven Years War (1756–1763) in which France, Russia, Spain and Austria fought against Britain, Portugal and Prussia for control of America, Africa and India . In the battle in question in 1760, the French forces defeated the British and their allies.
