The monument in honor of the Marquis de Castries (Charles Eugène Gabriel de La Croix) who won the Battle of Kloster Kampen, a battle fought during the Seven Years’ War (1756–1763) in which France, Russia, Spain and Austria fought against Britain, Portugal and Prussia for control of America, Africa and India .
In the battle in question in 1760, the French forces defeated the British and their allies.

The monument was erected in the 18th century and was created by the sculptor Étienne Dantoine
