The second truce was carried out after 10 days of fighting at the end of the first truce, following a vigorous demand by the UN Security Council. The "common outpost" was where the city of Beit Shemesh is today. The name "common" comes from the fact that one part of it was controlled by members of the "Harel" brigade while the other part was held by an Egyptian force.
