Salvador
325 refugees from Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland gathered in Bulgaria. In December 1940, in order to avoid deportation to concentration camps, they sailed from the port of Varna in Bulgaria, using sailboats with no engines. The wind brought them to Istanbul and they were dragged by the Turks to the Sea of Marmara. As a result of a storm the ship wwas carried away towards the rocks, split in half and sank. 202 illegal immigrants drowned, 123 survived.
