On November 2, 1945, during "Operation Party" - The Night of the Trains, which was part of the campaign against the Royal Navy’s sea blockade of pre-State Israel, two members of the Palmach set out from Tel Aviv beach to Jaffa Port and sank a British patrol boat.

Between 1948 and 1954, Jaffa Port was home to an Israeli Navy base that provided storage and maintenance services to the naval commando unit and other units of the corps.

On October 22, 1948, the Israeli Navy’s explosive boats unit set out from Jaffa Port on board the mother ship, Ahi Maoz. They blew up the Emir Farouk, the flagship of the Egyptian navy, sinking a minesweeper as well.
From that day and until the end of the War of Independence, ships belonging to the Egyptian fleet refrained from entering the territorial waters of the State of Israel.
