במקום זה שכן מלון "הירקון", שממנו נחטפו בי"ט בסיוון תש"ז (18.6.1946) חמישה קצינים בריטים כדי לשמש בני ערובה, להצלת חייהם של
מיכאל אשבל ויוסף שמחון,
לוחמי הארגון הצבאי הלאומי, שנידונו למוות על ידי השלטון הבריטי.
החטיפה הביאה להמרת פסק דינם במאסר עולם.

The Hayarkon Hotel once stood on this site.
On 18.6.1946, five British officers were taken hostage from the hotel by Etzel fighters.
The operation was an attempt to save two of their comrades,
Michael Ashbel and
Yosef Simchon,
from the death sentences imposed on them,by a British military tribunal.
The sentences were consequently commuted to life imprisonment.

The sign is rectangular but its head is designed according to the emblem of the city of Tel Aviv
