Comments:
This prison operated from the 12th century until 1780 and got its name from the area where the Liberty of the Clink operated, a local manor area, which belonged to the Bishop of Winchester, collected taxes from the residents of the area, and imprisoned those who were in arrears.
Another version for the name of the prison, is the sound that the chains of the prisoners used to make.
It was probably the oldest prison in England (for men and women).
Today the place is used as a museum.
