Mark Barraud 1848-1887 owner and master of Bristol born dog Nipper 1884-1895 was employed as a scenic designer in the old Prince’s Theatre in Park Row
Nipper the dog, became known for his appearance in a painting by Francis Barraud, a painting that became the logo of the record label His Master’s Voice (HMV) - Gramophone companies, EMI, RCA Victor. The dog lived together with his owner Mark (Francis’ brother) in the theater that stood in this place, where Mark served as a stage designer. The drawing of the dog listening to an old gramophone is considered one of the most famous logos in the world.
