The sign is on the wall of the house of John Foster who was a fish and wool merchant who also served as Bristol’s mayor and representative in Parliament. He founded Foster’s Almshouses in 1483 to serve as a place of shelter for the poor, and the Chapel of the Three Kings of Cologne in 1504.
