1824 1899 INSIGNE ΝΟΤΑΙΟ
CAPO DEL PARTITO DEMOCRATICO PRIMO SINDACO DELLA NUOVA RAGUSA ATTIVO ORGANIZZATORE DELLA GLORIOSA INSURREZIONE DEL 16 MAGGIO 1860
The plaque commemorates the place where the first mayor of New Ragusa - Francesco de Stefano - lived. In 1848 the inhabitants of Ragusa rebelled together with other cities in Sicily against the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, and in 1860 in the "Expedition of the Thousand" led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was defeated, the final result of which was a united Italy. This is the "Glorious Insurrection" indicated on the sign.
