One of the signs on the wall of the town hall of Ragusa.
After World War II, the area of the city of Trieste in northern Italy was declared an independent country under the control of the United Nations, to act as a buffer between Italy and Yugoslavia. Both Italy and Yugoslavia have had their eyes on this region ever since. In the month of November 1953, after the Italian flag was removed by British forces from the city hall, an uprising began in which 6 people were killed (the ones indicated by the sign). About a year after the riots, the area was divided between Italy and Yugoslavia.
