משה שימקו נולד בניטרה, צ’כוסלובקיה בשנת 1904 ועלה לפלשתינה א"י כנער במסגרת תנועת הנוער היהודית "בלאו וייס".
בעין גנים, בתקופת ההכשרה, פגש את מי שלימים תהיה אשתו, הינדה האוזר, שעלתה מגרמניה במסגרת תנועת הנוער "הפועל המזרחי". לזוג נולדו 9 ילדים. משה נפטר בנס ציונה בשנת 1966.

בתקופת המרד הערבי הגדול (1936-1939) הייתה נס ציונה מושבה קטנה ששכנה סמוך לכפר הערבי הלאומני "סרפנד אל חרב" (שכונת יד אליעזר של היום). פורעים ערבים זרעו פחד באזור כולו. המושבה הותקפה בירי כמעט מדי לילה וספגה פגיעות רבות ברכוש ובנפש. בשטחי הפרדסים נעקרו עצים, נשרפו בתי אריזה ופוצצו בארות מים.

Moshe Shimko was born in Nitra, Czechoslovakia in 1904 and immigrated to Palestine as a teenager as part of the Jewish youth movement "Blau Weiss".
In Ein Ganim, during the training period, he met the one who would later become his wife, Hinda Hauser, who immigrated from Germany as part of the youth movement HaPoel HaMizrachi. The couple had 9 children. Moshe died in Nes Ziona in 1966.

During the Great Arab Revolt (1939-1936) Nes Ziona was a small settlement located near the nationalist Arab village "Sarfand El Harev" (today’s Yad Eliezer neighborhood). Arab rioters sowed fear in the entire region. The colony was attacked by gunfire almost every night and suffered many injuries to property and people. In the orchards, trees were uprooted, packing houses were burned and water wells were blown up.

Avner Kahanov wrote about him - a commander in the "Hagana" organization in the Nes Ziona settlement - "Moshe Shimko, who was very active in the "Hagana" organization, asked to take over the guarding of the "Parads HaTor" "The pool hill"), a large orchard, 180 dunams, surrounded Arab orchards, which was remote and isolated from the colony.
The defense of "Parads HaTor" seemed to me an impossible and extremely dangerous task, unless we dedicate a proper task force to it, at least a class equipped with the best weapons and communications. And even then the risk is the greatest. We could not separate such a unit and such a weapon from the miracle of the besieged Nes Ziona, which collapsed under the burden of its defense. I explained this to Moshe and begged him to resign from the guarding position "in the Orchard of the Tor", for his sake and for the sake of his family. Moshe Shimko took upon himself a fateful decision that required supreme courage and dedication. When it was clear to me that this was his decision, the "Pardes HaTor" position entered the defensive formation of Nes Ziona "as an outside position". We sat down and coordinated the defense plan for the "Tor position", the access and withdrawal methods, the signs of distress and contact (colored rockets) and the possibilities of bringing help. From that day on, the relationship with Moshe was daily and a first priority, as every day and night is a story of heroism and courage. In a single position on guard, in the dark, cold nights, rifle bullets are aimed at him and his position, and he is alone and returns fire. determined on the spot. The "Tor post" was attacked several times by firing from a distance, in the area around it there was an unceasing war of gang actions and our retaliations that claimed victims and destruction.

This period of time of keeping the one, the lonely, the isolated and the special - Moshe, is a period of personal heroism, supreme courage, few like it in the stories of heroism of the generation of 1948.

Moshe Shimko is one of the unsung heroes in every sense of the unique generation of 1948. And in his life, he expresses the example of a man of the beautiful, old and special Land of Israel."

Over the years the settlement developed, Ness Ziona became a city and new neighborhoods were built around "Givat Hator". If Moshe had the privilege of seeing the miracle of Ziona today, his heart would be filled with pride.

Dan Yehuda Zomer who was murdered on October 7, 2023, is the great-grandson of Moshe Shimko.
