SYLVIA PANKHURST 1882-1960 Campaigner for Women’s Rights lived here
The sign is on the wall of the house where the fighter for equal rights for women Sylvia Pankhurst (1882-1960) lived. Pankhurst was active in the suffrage movement, a movement that worked to give women the right to vote in elections. In addition to this activity, she was a political activist, a fighter for peace and an activist against fascism and colonialism. She lived in this house between 1906-1909.
Sylvias mother Emmeline Pankhurst is considered one of the founders of the suffragist movement in Great Britain. The house where the mother lived together with Sylvia and her sister Christabel (who was also active in the movement) is commemorated on a separate plaque, in which Sylvia is also mentioned Click for sign's details
