On the sign:

Translation of the text on the sign:
Here was the house of the Jewish National Fund

Although this seems strange, here stood a single Hebrew signpost on the road connecting Jaffa and Tel Aviv with Jerusalem and the south

In the days of the War of Independence, before the establishment of the state, a small force was guaranteed control, which held its own in the face of the enemy’s attacks and attempts to blow up the house

The enemy’s pressure reached its peak in the attack on the 8th day of Adar 2 578 (19.1.1948) after part of the building was destroyed. The defenders fortified themselves in the ruins and in dug-out positions and repelled the attackers.

With Operation Hametz and the occupation of Beit Dagan by the defense forces on the evening of May 15, 1948, the threat of the enemy over the Hebrew transport in this section was removed and the house ended its function.
