In the First World War, the building of the National Higher School of Mines was bombed in an air attack, the top sign indicates this, as well as the damage the place suffered in the battle for the liberation of Paris in the Second World War.
The lower plaque commemorates the man who fell here in the battle for the liberation of Paris in World War II.
