History of Paris

The birth of a Star
Sarah Bernhardt was born here, on October 25, 1844, but she was quickly placed in foster care in Brittany, then put in a convent, near Versailles. Her aunt Rosine, very close to the Duke of Morny, decided on her career by having her enter the Conservatory in 1859, and her real birth dates from her encounter with the theater. "Evolution took place in me from that day on. I was still with my childish soul for quite a long time, but my brain perceived life more clearly." She debuted at the Odéon in "The Game of Love and Chance", immediately adored by the students, nicknamed the "Saradoteurs"... "I received little bouquets of violets, sonnets, poems... ." "But I was waiting for the event which was to consecrate Etoile to me. And it was the greatest poet of the last century who placed the crown of the elect on my forehead." At the end of 1871, in fact, Hugo (Victor Hugo) offered her the role of the Queen of Spain, in "Ruy Blas" where she triumphed: "I had remained until that day, the little fairy of the students: I became the Elected by the Public.
