A commemorative plaque to Antonis Oikonomou (1785-1821), born on the island of Hydra, a navy man, who was a prominent figure in the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman rule in 1821. Hydra, who was treated quite reasonably by the Ottoman authorities, was not enthusiastic about the rebellion. Antonis landed a ship on the island and deposed the governor, then declared war on Turkey. Murdered by emissaries of the Hydra people who were not happy with the rebellion.
