The statue commemorates the 32nd President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945).
The American president who served 4 consecutive terms (after his death, the amendment to the United States Constitution was passed that a president cannot serve more than two terms). Roosevelt, faced the great economic crisis in the United States (the Great Depression) and led the United States in World War II

The statue, made by Jo Davidson, was erected in 1953 to mark the part the United States played in World War II. It is a replica of a sculpture made in 1933
