Haim Levanon (1899-1986), born in Krakow, Poland, immigrated to Israel in 1927. He was one of the founders of the Haboker newspaper (the General Zionist newspaper). He served as mayor of Tel Aviv, and initiated and established Tel Aviv University, which is located on the street that bears his name.
