The memorial is dedicated to the men of St Saviour’s Quarter who fell in the First World War.

In the sculpture made by Philip Lindsey Clark, an infantry soldier is seen in a battle position.
The statue was placed in 1922

At the base of the monument are metal plaques, one (shown on the main sign) depicts the guns of a warship.
And the second describes an air battle and below it the text:
THIS MEMORIAL WAS ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS OF SAINT SAVIOUR’S SOUTHWARK IN THE YEAR 1922
