Ipolite (Kvinchia) Khvichia

Ipolite Khvichia was born in the village Kontuatshi, Khoni region. He finisned Tbilisi industrial-Economic Technical Institution in 1934. Though, he had talent in acting

In 1932 - 1936, he was an actor of Tsulukidze and Gegechkori Regional Theaters. From 1937, he began to work in Kutaisi Lado Mes khishvili State Drama Theater where according to the advice of Dodo Antadze, he changed his surname into Kvichia. During 1961- 1966, he performed the role of Shakro ("In the Shadow of Metekhi" by O. Mamporia) and Spiridoni ("The Last Masquerade" by Naziani) on the stage of Shota Rustaveli State Drama Theater.

Real recognition and people’s great love towards Ipolite came from 1956 when his life was connected to the cinema. Ipolite Khvichia was filmed in the following films: "Our Yard" (as Commandant, 1956), "A Fellow from Sabudara" (Almakhsani, 1957), "Manana" (Manager of Housing, 1958), "Last Day, First Day" (1959), "Ball and Field" (Kuchkuchi, 1961), "Toys are laughing" (Melitoni, 1962), "Sorry, You Will Die" (Karaman Khuskivadze, 1965), "Meeting with the Past" (Ipolite, 1966), "Do Not Grieve" (Sandro, 1968), "Look at this Young People" (1969), "Feola" (Bondo Dolaberidze, 1970), "Funny Romance" (Ipolite, 1972), "First Swallow" (Varlami, 1975), "Mimino" (1977), "Data Tutashkhia" (Kaja Bulava, 1978), "Somebody Was Sitting in the Fridge" (1983) and others.

Ipolite Khvichia was buried in Saburtalo Public Figures Pantheon.

In the statue commemorating the film and theater actor Ipolite Khvichia (1910-1985), the actor and a small child are seen sitting on a bench, looking at a film.
